Jefferson Parent Organization
Mission Statement

Jefferson Parent Organization aims to enhance both the educational and social aspects of the middle school experience by gathering, organizing and providing volunteer hours and monetary contributions from parents and the local community. We strive to make the educational experience enjoyable for the students and to facilitate the pride, honor and dedication of the Jefferson administration, teachers and staff.

What We Do

Jefferson Parent Organization (JPO) works closely with the Jefferson administration and staff to fulfill school needs not afforded by the budget. In addition to supplementing funds for academic needs, JPO also sponsors many social activities for students and hospitality events for staff throughout the school year. During the 2008-2009 school year, with the help of many parent volunteers, JPO contributed to Jefferson in numerous ways:

  • Teachers were awarded funds to support mini grant proposals that purchased supplemental educational materials that were not covered by the school budget.
  • Four newsletters were mailed to the home of every Jefferson family keeping them up to date on JMS activities and academic progress throughout the year.
  • Hospitality was provided for those professionals participating in Jefferson's Career Day.
  • Teachers were treated to a breakfast at the beginning of the year, quarterly lunches, and dinner prior to both parent conference evenings.
  • Funding was provided for the students' End-of-Year-Picnic.
  • Spirit Week was funded and organized for Jefferson students, including a pep rally.
  • Appreciation Week was funded and organized for Jefferson teachers, administration and staff.
  • Snacks were provided to every student during FCAT testing.
  • Monthly student activities (such as dances, game nights, and karaoke events) were funded, organized and chaperoned.

There were many additional occasions for which JPO provided financial aid and/or volunteer hours to Jefferson's teachers, administation, staff and students throughout the year; many more than there is room to list here. More is planned for the 2009-2010 school year than ever before!

A+ Thrift

A+ Thrift Store is a non-profit second-hand clothing, furniture and housewares outlet conceived specifically to raise money for Merritt Island schools. They are the largest financial contributor to Jefferson Parent Organization. Please help support them by donating unwanted items (in good condition) and/or by volunteering some of your time. They are located at the corner of Plumosa and 520, in a small plaza across from Sunoco.
